Wow, do I love this scene and this character. Damon Salvatore was complicated. You hated him, you loved him, you hated to love him. He had such a rich, deep backstory that was well developed. He wasn't all bad or all good, just like a character should be. Most importantly, he made you "feel." Should he have kissed his brother's girl? Probably not. But you felt his internal struggle against it for so long and even if it may have been wrong, you couldn't really be mad at him. Or maybe you could. Elena didn't exactly push him away either. 
Damon was the reason why I loved this show so much!
